LINDSAY EAGER

Pursuing The Future

Show Notes

12/04/2018  | 74 Minutes

This week’s guest: Lindsay Eagar – a critically acclaimed author of three novels. She considers herself a natural-born “Slytherin” with ambition and ethics as values. When she’s not writing you’ll find her with her family and most likely baking. And most importantly - keeping the crumbs out of the butter.

PERSONAL TICKS

  • A natural-born Slytherin with ambitions and to-do lists.

  • Always  inclined to create, to produce, to make and do and be.

  • A vision of where to be in 10-20 years. “It's cozy. I have a fireplace. My family has a home somewhere gray and rainy, we're surrounded with trees, and I have enough space for my library of books. My kids have room to run around and I bake every afternoon.”

  • Everything that is done in life is working towards that image.

  • Theme for 2018: FINISH.

PERSONAL TICK OFFS

  • Noticing that you make the same mistakes over and over again.

  • Persecution complex - a person or entire group people who refuse to acknowledge or cannot see their own privileges. People who were born on third base and want to brag about sliding into home. People who forget about the institutions that favor them, and how they factor into their success.

  • When there are crumbs in the butter (literally AND figuratively).

PROFESSIONAL TICK OFFS

  • The inconsistency and unreliability of the publishing industry. Sales numbers, royalties, Amazon, etc. It’s sometimes all a question mark.

  • The constant fear of being laughed at, ridiculed, rejected, or ignored.

  • The never-ending self doubt.

PROFESSIONAL TICKS

  • To be able to finish a story and write - THE END. It feels like doing something that is impossible.

  • Doing it for the love - the love of books, love of telling stories.

  • Knowing that there are more stories to write and tell.
