Proud Past & Positive Future

Show Notes

07/17/2018  | 57 Minutes

This week’s guest: Eric Woodyard - beat writer for the Utah Jazz who proudly hails from Flint, Michigan. Flint is considered one of America’s poorest or most violent cities, but he believes that if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. Basketball and home are some ticks that remind him to stay positive and give back daily. He loves spending time with family and friends but if you have him over, just make sure you give him a heads up if you have any pets at home, especially cats…

PERSONAL TICKS

  • Basketball. He’s played his whole life and realized after high school that being a beat writer would help him stay close to the sport he loves.

  • Home. Flint, Michigan. Check out his documentary here.

  • Knowing that people depend on him. Family feeds his Ticked fuel!

PERSONAL TICK OFFS

  • No pet warnings, especially cats. Don’t try to convince him why your pet is so cool!

  • Spoiling movies on Twitter. Why do people have to do that?!

  • Someone changing the radio in the car. “Don’t ever touch a black man’s radio!” - Chris Tucker in Rush Hour

  • Inaccuracy in drive-thus. Especially Taco Bell. I wanted a Supreme Taco…

PROFESSIONAL TICK OFFS

  • Don’t treat me differently because I’m black. I know I’m the black dude in the room. We’re all the same.

  • Being boxed-in. Keeping screen-shots of rejection emails.
