Technology

Show Notes

07/10/2018  | 67 Minutes

This week’s guest: Your hosts. We take a break from our regular guest routine and talk through our ticks involving technology. Let’s face it, it’s a big part of our lives. It’s 2018 and there’s a lot of technology out there surrounding our abilities. But with great technology comes great responsibility to know when to use it, and when to put it away and connect with people.

TECHNOLOGY TICKS

  • Apps - specifically apps that make life easier. Ben categorizes these into his “life” folder. List includes Venmo, Aaptiv, Fitbit & FaceTime.

  • When technology syncs across devices, it’s magic. It helps Ben consider his workflow to be a well-oiled machine.

  • Progression of technology is visible. We can see how far we’ve come (or how dependent we’ve become). Lib mentions house phones to cell phones & citing sources for term papers.

  • Technology in learning and development. Ben geeks out when technology syncs audio and visual cues together to help someone learn most effectively. Learning through the internet, youtube, google.

  • Both our careers exist because of technology. Updates to programs, software, media keeps us ticking professionally.

  • Technology has given both of us a creative outlet and a livelihood, and a passion in the Ticked Podcast

TECHNOLOGY TICK OFFS

  • Technology gaps from generation to generation. Maybe our generation is a little more fearless about not breaking the device, but we’ll explore a lot more than those older than us.

  • Kids are surrounded by technology. Is it too much? Goodbye, tactile learning. Hello, cyber-bullying and media forms that aren’t appropriate for kids.

  • Are too many jobs being replaced by technology?

  • Technology has ushered in a whole new lens for “keeping up with the Jones’s” in business and we’re losing out on customer-focused relationships.

  • “There’s an app for that” mentality. Too many companies make unnecessary apps and dump funding into dead ends.

  • Ben has to have the latest and greatest! Technology drives our upgrades. Keeping up with the Zuckerbergs.

  • Outdated technology in otherwise seemingly convenient locations. Example: Touch Screens at self-order movie kiosks.

  • We’re losing patience because of technology. Everything is at the touch of a button, and we complain when our wifi is too slow.

BOTTOM LINE

With great power comes great responsibility. Use technology for good. Take time away from technology and connect with other people. Be responsible to know when to use it and when not to use it.
